Inflation for May 2026 increases to 3.7%
Ghana’s inflation rate edged up to 3.7 per cent in May 2026, extending a recent upward trend for the second straight month, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) data released by the Ghana Statistical Service.
Presenting the figures, Government Statistician Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu said annual inflation increased from 3.4 per cent in April to 3.7 per cent in May, reflecting a marginal rise of 0.3 percentage points.
Data from the Statistical Service showed that the CPI climbed to 270.2 in May 2026, up from 260.5 recorded during the same period in 2025.
Despite the slight increase, inflation remains substantially lower than the 18.4 per cent recorded a year ago, signalling a marked improvement in overall price stability.
Dr. Iddrisu noted that the sharp decline in inflation over the past year has helped ease the burden on consumers and reduced pressure on household spending.
However, he cautioned that the latest figures suggest a modest build-up in price increases, which will require close monitoring in the months ahead.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 1.1 per cent between April and May 2026, indicating a gradual increase in the cost of goods and services over the period.
