Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Jinapor, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, has called for a fair and equitable global energy transition that reflects Africa’s unique realities.

Delivering the opening remarks at the 7th Meeting of the African Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO) National Oil Companies CEOs Forum in Accra, the Minister stressed that Africa must define its own energy future while safeguarding the interests of its people.

“The world speaks of an energy transition. But for Africa, we must insist that it must be a just transition,” he said.

“It must be fair, equitable, and reflective of our unique circumstances.

We must prioritise initiatives that ensure universal energy access for all citizens.”

Mr. Jinapor emphasised that Africa has the right to harness its natural resources for national development, but must do so through “smart, strategic, sustainable, and sovereign choices.”

He urged national oil company CEOs across the continent to remain guided by this principle: “The future of Africa’s energy must be written by Africa, for Africa.”
