NCA serves notice to suspend DSTV's authorisation to operate
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has issued a formal notice to MultiChoice Ghana Limited, indicating its intent to suspend the company's authorisation to operate its Pay TV Direct-to-Home Subscription Management Service in Ghana.
According to a press release dated 7th August 2025, the decision is grounded in Section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which grants the regulator authority to take action against licensees whose operations are deemed to violate public interest.
The NCA cited MultiChoice’s pricing model as the primary concern, describing it as “inimical to the public interest”.
Specific details of the pricing structure under scrutiny were not disclosed, but the statement suggests it has triggered significant regulatory concern.
“The NCA has notified MultiChoice Ghana Limited of its intent to suspend the company’s Subscription Management Service for Satellite Television Broadcasting (Pay TV Direct-to-Home Bouquet) Authorisation,” the statement read.
As part of due process, MultiChoice Ghana has been given 30 days to respond.
During this period, the company is permitted to:
Submit written objections
Present its views
Propose any remedial actions
Failure to respond or resolve the issues raised could lead to a formal suspension of its operating licence in Ghana.
