President Mahama orders GH¢2 reduction in diesel price
President John Dramani Mahama has directed that the regulatory margin on diesel be reduced by GH¢2.00 per litre for one month, in a move aimed at cushioning consumers against rising fuel costs.
According to a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the directive follows a decision by Cabinet and builds on a similar intervention implemented in April 2026.
The statement said the temporary measure is intended to cushion consumers, prevent transport fare hikes, contain inflationary pressures, and mitigate the pass-through effect of higher fuel prices on the cost of living.
The directive takes effect from Tuesday, 4 August 2026, and will remain in force for one month, unless otherwise reviewed by government.
Government said it will continue to monitor developments in the international energy market closely and take additional policy measures where necessary to protect the interests of Ghanaians and sustain the country's economic recovery.
