TOR MD Edmond Kombat named Energy Sector Recovery Champion of the Year
The Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Edmond Kombat has been named the Energy Sector Recovery Programme (ESRP) Champion of the Year 2026 by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
The recognition was presented at the Ministry’s Annual Retreat held at Volta Serene in the Volta Region which brought together leadership across the energy sector to review achievements and challenges in 2026 and outline strategic priorities for 2027.
In a statement expressing his gratitude for the honour, the TOR Managing Director commended President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership and commitment to revitalising Ghana’s energy sector.
He also expressed appreciation to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, and the Ministry’s leadership and staff for their guidance and continued support for the refinery.
The TOR Managing Director said the award reflected the collective efforts of the refinery’s board, management and staff in restoring the state-owned facility to its position as a strategic national asset.
He cited the successful completion of critical turnaround maintenance works and the resumption of crude oil refining as key milestones made possible through the dedication and resilience of the TOR workforce.
“This recognition is a testament to our collective commitment, sacrifice, resilience, and determination to restore TOR to its rightful place as a strategic national asset,” he said.
He added that the progress made so far would not have been possible without the dedication and support of the refinery’s workforce.
The Managing Director also said the award was both a moment of celebration and a renewed call to duty as the refinery works towards improving operational efficiency, strengthening Ghana’s energy security and contributing to national economic transformation.
“At TOR, we recognise that the work is not finished. The journey towards a stronger, more efficient, commercially sustainable, and globally competitive refinery continues,” he stated.
He noted that the recognition would motivate the refinery to pursue operational excellence, create local value and support the country’s broader economic development agenda.
The TOR Managing Director dedicated the award to the refinery’s staff and stakeholders who continue to support efforts to revitalise the facility.
“The recognition inspires us. The responsibility drives us. The results will speak for themselves,” he said.
