The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have announced that transport fares will remain unchanged across the country until further notice.

In a joint press release issued by the two transport bodies, the operators welcomed the government’s decision to reduce the regulatory margin on diesel by GH¢2.00 per litre for a one-month period, effective Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

They described the intervention as a timely response to concerns raised by transport operators over the rising cost of fuel.

According to the statement, the leadership of the transport unions had engaged the Minister responsible for the sector, advocating for urgent measures to ease the burden on commercial drivers.

They noted that the government’s intervention reflects the outcome of those engagements and expressed hope that the fuel price relief would be extended beyond the initial one-month period if global oil prices continue to rise.

Following consultations with their national executives and key stakeholders, the transport operators stated that there will be no adjustment in transport fares on any route until further notice.

The unions also directed all drivers, station masters, and branch executives to strictly adhere to the approved fare structure.

They cautioned that no commuter should be charged above the officially approved fares and urged passengers to report any instances of overcharging to the nearest union office for immediate action.

The statement was jointly signed by Godfred Abulbire, General Secretary of the GPRTU, and Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, General Secretary of the GRTCC.
