#2024Polls: Lydia Forson finally understands voter apathy is protest
Decorated actress Lydia Forson has said she has finally come to understand the point of people who abstain from voting.
She spoke on X, Monday, December 9, 2024, two days after Ghana went to the polls.
"I used to be so against people who didn’t vote, I even argued with some on the TL sometimes. But I’ve come to appreciate that NOT voting in itself is an act of protest. And whiles that may never be me, I think I understand and appreciate that now," Ms Forson wrote.
That same day, she reposted an election observation from M.anifest on the 2024 voter apathy.
"A 60.9% voter turnout is very low and very telling. Signals a strong distrust and lack of confidence in leadership options. (S)he who has ears…" the rap star wrote.

From all indications, for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, those who voted and those who abstained were both agreed on a punitive action aimed at President Nana Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration after their eight-year rule.
At the end of the democratic contest, Ghana favoured the return of former President John Dramani Mahama of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
