Committee submits report on reviving Kumawood to Ashanti Regional Minister

A 17-member committee tasked with assessing the challenges facing Kumawood and recommending strategies for its revival has submitted its final report to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
The committee, chaired by Bishop Ofori Edu, was inaugurated on March 4, 2025, and completed its work within two months, officially presenting its report on May 13, 2025.
Receiving the report, Dr. Amoakohene praised the committee for the dedication and speed with which it carried out its mandate.
He reiterated the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama to revitalising Ghana’s film industry, particularly Kumawood, which has long been a key pillar of local entertainment.
“The President is deeply committed to the revival of the creative arts sector, and Kumawood remains central to that vision,” the Minister said.
Speaking to the media, the committee's secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Opoku Anane, popularly known as "Awukye", thanked the Minister for prioritising the revival of Kumawood.
He expressed confidence that the government’s support, along with the committee’s recommendations, would help rejuvenate the industry and stimulate economic growth in the region.
He added that the report is expected to serve as a blueprint for policy and investment efforts aimed at restoring Kumawood to its former glory.
