Musician and leader of the FRA! band Joshua "Virgen" Boateng (JVB) has urged musicians to reject the belief that narcotics enhance energy or improve stage performances.

"A lot of people believe smoking weed or using hard drugs enhances performance. But that's simply not true," the versatile composer and drummer said.

To support his point, Virgen said FRA! delivers its constant, energetic live performances without relying on illegal substances.

"FRA! is living proof that you can perform at the highest level with energy, passion, and excellence... without taking any drugs," he said.

He also dismissed suggestions that the Highlife/Funk band secretly uses drugs, attributing their energy to a simple, hearty Ghanaian meal.

"People often assume we smoke because of the energy we bring on stage, but trust me, it's just fufu and water," he said.

Virgen encouraged fellow musicians to take inspiration from the band's example.

"If we can give our all without relying on substances, so can you," he said.

He added that discipline, self-control and consistent practice are healthier and more sustainable ways to excel as a performer.

"Choose discipline. Choose good health," he said.

"Choose purpose. Say no to drugs."

While FRA! has a new album dropping soon, JVB's latest independent project is with Rev Edwin Dadson and is called Gratitude.
