GTA consults stakeholders on regulations for event centres and tourism service providers
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has begun consultations with key industry stakeholders on proposed regulations to introduce mandatory standards for the registration and licensing of multi-purpose establishments and service providers within the tourism sector.
The proposed regulations will cover facilities such as banquet halls, conference centres, and event centres, as well as service providers involved in event management, including event planners, decorators, and technical support teams.
The GTA said the initiative forms part of efforts to improve professionalism, strengthen consumer protection, and enhance competitiveness in Ghana’s growing tourism industry.
The stakeholder engagement, held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, also marked the launch of the Ghana Tourism Information System (GTIS), a digital platform aimed at improving the administration and regulation of tourism services across the country.
The platform enables tour operators, accommodation providers, and other tourism businesses to access licensing, permits, and compliance services online, with the aim of reducing bureaucracy and promoting transparency.
Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Afua Houadjeto, said the proposed regulations were intended to establish a modern, transparent, and fair regulatory framework for the sector.
She added that the standards would help improve industry practices, ensure quality service delivery, and build trust among travellers and investors while supporting sustainable growth in Ghana’s tourism industry.
