Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese has revisited the unresolved killing of his former manager, Fennec Okyere, expressing firm doubts about the long-held belief that the incident was a robbery.

Speaking during an interview on JoyPrime, the musician stated that he is convinced the attack was a targeted assassination rather than a break-in gone wrong.

According to him, the circumstances surrounding Okyere’s death do not support claims that thieves were responsible.

Kwaw Kese recounted the moment he received the distressing call from Okyere’s houseboy, identified as Believer.

He said he was bathing when the call came in and immediately rushed to the residence.

On arrival, he found his former manager lying in what he described as a pool of blood.

The two had spent time together the previous night, sharing a meal and conversations, making the news even more shocking.

Reflecting on the details of the attack, the rapper emphasised that nothing appeared to have been taken from the house.

He pointed out that Okyere did not keep large sums of money at home, arguing that there would have been no motive for armed robbers.

He added that the nature of the stabbing — which reportedly pierced through the chest to the back — suggested a deliberate and calculated act.

The musician also questioned the scope of the investigation carried out by the Ghana Police Service.

He suggested that certain individuals within the entertainment industry should have been invited for questioning, referencing previous public allegations made by dancehall artist Shatta Wale.

Kwaw Kese revealed that after public exchanges surrounding the matter, he received a direct message from Shatta Wale, which he claims to still have.

He maintained that, at the very least, authorities should have formally questioned everyone whose names surfaced during that period.

He further disclosed that he himself was invited to the police headquarters shortly after the incident and was interviewed by the Inspector-General of Police at the time.

However, he said he never fully understood why he was singled out for questioning.

Background

Fennec Okyere was killed on March 13, 2014, when unknown attackers reportedly entered his home and fatally assaulted him.

More than a decade later, no one has been successfully convicted in connection with the crime.

In 2014, artist manager Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson was arrested by the Homicide Unit of the Police CID after being named as a suspect.

At the time, then-CID PRO DSP Joseph Darkwah indicated that Hanson had allegedly made threats against the deceased.

However, the case took a turn when former Attorney-General Gloria Akuffo announced that the state would discontinue prosecution, leading to Hanson’s release.
