Medikal says jail time with Shatta Wale made them ‘extremely close’, shares transformative advice he received
Medikal has expressed his gratitude for the “never settle for less” and “never let the public opinion get to you” advice given to him by Shatta Wale.
“He advises and talks to me a lot. You know he has a lot of experience; he’s been in the industry for over a decade. He’s been on the path for long and knows where the potholes are and would advise me to avoid them,” the rap star said, speaking to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo.
Although “I’ve known Shatta for over seven or eight years,” being with him in jail, Medikal explained, led to their becoming “extremely close”.
“We were locked up in the same place and we spoke a lot and we executed those plans when we came out,” he emphasised.
“He’s always been positive.”
When Medikal and Shatta Wale were released from jail, they went to the sea for ritual bathing and later staged a big Accra (Ohene Gyan) Sports Stadium event. Prior to the Freedom Wave concert, they had the hit Stubborn Academy, which has become a tag line for protesters in Ghana.
Getting close to Shatta Wale, Medikal said he discovered Wale was “a different human being”.
“He’s changed so many things in the industry,” he eulogised.
“He’s the reason why most of the artistes are able to collect some amounts of money,” Medikal explained. “He makes you understand the worth of an artiste. He’s positive.”
He challenged the notion associating with Shatta Wale has made him enemies with others.
