Salma Mumin close to tears over 'slay queen' tag affecting her life, business
Salma Mumin has asserted she is not a slay queen as some people think.
"I just love to look good, that's all," she explained. "I just love to look good while doing what I do best, working hard."
The actress spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM.
"My work is about clothing; wearing them, modelling, and looking good. People mistook my job for being a slay queen because I was fashionably dressed up all the time," Salma noted.
"I want people to buy my clothings, as they perceive me as the fashionista that I am.
"If I were a banker, I am not sure I would wear five different clothes within a week and take pictures."
The entrepreneur bemoaned the misconception about her job and sense of fashion, especially because, according to her, she has been in the fashion business since her senior high school days.
"I've got a tattoo, I'm very beautiful, God has given me glory, I sell cloths, I wear them, and I pose in them - you have to do this for others to see and want to patronise," Salma said.
"It looks like slaying but it's not."
Salma lamented the slay queen "tag has affected me a lot".
"It got to a time my colleagues didn't want to [associate] with me," she explained, adding she even recently lost a deal over the same stigma.
"It broke me down," the actress said, with a hint of crying in her voice.
She indicated, also, the episode led her to question God. However, she expressed her resolute confidence in God's vindication.
On the pros of her job, Salma testified being in the beauty industry has taken her around the world to popular destinations like the US, China, Turkey, etc.
She emphasised "seeing flashes of my future," she approached life daringly even when she was "unsure" or "scared".
"It's either you do or you die," she asserted.
"If you come to my work place, I am always looking like this while at it, and I will pick a broom and sweep and all of that," Salma said.
She noted her workers usually protested her working around the establishment but she does not given in because before their employment she was doing those chores, anyway.
