A/R: Police destroy millions of cedis’ worth of illicit drugs seized in regional operations
The Ashanti Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service has destroyed illicit drugs worth millions of Ghana cedis seized during their operations in the region.
The drugs, including tramadol, cannabis, male enhancement products, and many others, were intercepted during operations last year-2025, and this year-2026.
The narcotic substances were burned after the Law Enforcement Unit obtained a court order pursuant to Section 37 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), said ASP Frazer Nutakor, Commanding Officer of the Unit.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the substances were burned in the presence of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Environmental Health Services, and the media at the Oti Landfill site.

ASP Nutakor stated that suspects arrested in connection with the destroyed narcotics are currently facing the full law in court.
He noted that many people take and abuse drugs intending to enhance their ability to work harder and prepare better for exams, not realising they are risking their lives.
ASP Nutakor affirmed that the unit will not waver in its duty to arrest and prosecute those involved in illicit drug dealings to eradicate them from the system.
He urged the public to desist from using drugs, as they pose serious threats to health and national security.
