Accreditation rules set as Ghana to mark 69th Independence Day at Jubilee House

Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary Parade will be staged at the forecourt of Jubilee House on March 6, 2026, with the Information Services Department (ISD) outlining strict accreditation and operational guidelines for media coverage.

In a notice dated February 24 and signed by Acting ISD Director, Dr Winnifred N. Mahama, editors were invited to submit accreditation requests no later than 5 PM on February 27.

The national celebration will be held at Jubilee House for the second straight year, continuing a cost-saving measure first adopted in 2025.

Officials previously indicated that last year’s event cost ¢1.5 million at the presidency, significantly lower than the estimated ¢15 million required to host it at Black Star Square, the traditional venue for Independence Day parades since its completion in 1961.

Due to space constraints and high demand, each media organisation will receive only one accreditation slot, though outlets with existing presidential clearance may deploy already approved staff.

Applications must be submitted formally with the names and contact details of assigned personnel. ISD cautioned that passes will be non-transferable, and late arrivals may be denied access. Accredited journalists are also expected to adhere to formal or business dress codes.

Photographers and videographers are to report by 6:45 AM for security checks and positioning, remain within designated zones, and avoid movement during key ceremonial moments such as the national anthem and the presidential address.

The use of drones and other aerial devices is prohibited without prior approval, while only professional cameras and authorised equipment will be permitted. Access to sensitive areas, including the presidential dais and VIP sections, will be restricted to officially assigned personnel.

Presidency Communications, working with Ghana Television (GTV), will provide a live broadcast feed for stations planning to carry the ceremony live, with outlets required to state their intentions in their applications.
