Akyem Abuakwa paramount chief calls for stronger rural health system
The Paramount Chief of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin, has urged the state to channel more resources into healthcare services in rural communities to curb ongoing health difficulties in deprived areas.
According to him, putting up additional well-equipped medical centres outside urban areas would go a long way in cutting down avoidable fatalities and ensuring that people living in villages can obtain proper medical care.
He made these remarks during the 6th Dinner and Awards Night organized by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, held on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
The traditional ruler emphasized the need for authorities to step up actions aimed at improving the healthcare system, especially in less developed parts of the nation. He questioned why preventable illnesses such as malaria should still claim the lives of children in isolated communities, and why expectant mothers are forced to travel long distances—sometimes up to 16 miles—to access maternity care.
Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin praised nurses and midwives for their commitment and sacrifices, describing their contribution as invaluable. He also called on those in positions of authority to invest more in health infrastructure so that quality medical services can be fairly distributed nationwide.
He concluded by expressing appreciation for the efforts of healthcare workers, while appealing to policymakers and decision-makers to create opportunities that allow all citizens to benefit equally through improved facilities and support systems.
