NE/R: Curfew imposed on Nalerigu township
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument has imposed a curfew on Nalerigu township and its environs in the North East Region from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am, effective Thursday, December 18, 2025.
The ministry's statement announcing the development urged "chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them".
Additionally, the December 18, 2025, statement urged the use of "non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area".
The ministry also warned about a total ban on all persons in the Nalerigu township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive objects/ weapons, adding that any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
According to government, the following are also banned:
- No movement of motorbikes.
- No wearing of smocks.
- No selling of fuel in containers.
- Unlawful assembly
