Allocate 2% of education budget to disability inclusion – Eduwatch
Education policy think tank Africa Education Watch has urged the government to allocate at least 2% of Ghana’s education budget to support inclusive education for persons with disabilities(PWDs).
The call was made on Tuesday, April 21, during a stakeholder dialogue on pre-tertiary inclusive education organised by the Centre for Research and Development Alternatives.
Participants at the forum pointed to persistent gaps in school infrastructure and limited academic support for learners with disabilities, especially at the basic and secondary levels.
Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, emphasised the urgency of targeted funding to address the challenges.
“We need to secure at least 2% of the education budget. That should amount to close to a billion cedis. This will help increase enrolment among children with disabilities, expand special schools at the secondary level, and strengthen inclusive systems at the basic level,” he said
