The newly constituted Ashanti Regional Lands Commission Board was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, marking a significant milestone in strengthening land administration and governance in the region. Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Yusif Sulemana, charged the Board to prioritise revenue mobilisation, efficient land service delivery, and combating illegal mining activities ("galamsey"). He emphasised the need for strong collaboration between the Commission and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to ensure effective land management. Expressing concern over the devastating impact of illegal mining on water bodies and farmlands, Hon. Sulemana urged the Board to take decisive action against the menace. He assured the Board of the government’s full support, stressing that efficient land administration is crucial for national development and improved service delivery to both public and customary land sectors. The Deputy Minister highlighted the Commission’s role in promoting responsible land use, sustainable land management, and ecosystem preservation, noting that land development must align with national development goals. He also announced plans to expand Land Title Registration beyond Greater Kumasi, a move expected to enhance tenure security and attract local investment. He called on customary landowners to make their land available to the government and private investors to accelerate development. He also urged the Board to implement robust revenue mobilisation strategies to support the government’s broader agenda. Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, described the inauguration as a pivotal step toward effective land governance, economic growth, and social harmony.
