Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria and Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, has arrived in Abuja to begin his national assignment.

In a Facebook post, Baba Sadiq said he arrived in the Nigerian capital on Monday, September 1, indicating by photos that he had been received by a delegation at the airport.

The entrepreneur-turned-politician said he was beginning the assignment with a commitment to strengthening the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.

“I arrived in Abuja yesterday to commence my national assignment as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Permanent Representative to ECOWAS with a commitment to strengthening the enduring Ghana–Nigeria relationship and building bridges of opportunity,” he wrote.

Baba Sadiq was appointed High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria by President John Dramani Mahama in March 2026. 

His appointment followed the recall of Baba Jamal, who subsequently pursued a parliamentary bid. 

Baba Sadiq’s new role will see him represent Ghana in Nigeria and at ECOWAS as he works to deepen relations between the two countries.
