The Accra High Court has directed the prosecution in Wontumi’s EXIM Bank trial to file its disclosures within 14 days, paving the way for a Case Management Conference and the commencement of trial involving the imprisoned former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and two others.

The directive was issued by Justice Halima Basit after she noted that the 30-day period granted for the parties to conclude plea-bargaining negotiations had elapsed without an agreement.

Despite efforts by both the prosecution and the defence, the parties have been unable to reach a conclusion on the proposed plea bargain.

With the negotiations now expired, the court has ordered the prosecution to proceed with its disclosures within 14 days. 

The case will subsequently move to a Case Management Conference before trial begins.

Chairman Wontumi and two other accused persons are facing charges in connection with an alleged GH¢14 million loan obtained from the Export-Import Bank of Ghana (EXIM Bank) for a farming project.
