A newborn baby girl who was abandoned in a bush near a private school at Bronyibima Estate in Elmina has been rescued and is currently in stable condition.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region

The infant was found at about 4:30 p.m. by a rabbit farmer who was in the area at the time.

According to reports,  the farmer initially believed the sound he heard was from a distressed animal.

However, upon moving closer to investigate, he discovered the baby wrapped in cloth and placed inside a polythene bag in the bush.

Shocked by the discovery, the farmer quickly alerted residents in the area, who rushed to help.

The baby was immediately taken to Bronyibima Hospital, where medical personnel attended to her.

Health officials later confirmed that the infant is in stable condition.

The Social Welfare Department of the KEEA Municipality has since assumed responsibility for the child’s care to ensure her safety and well-being.

Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the abandonment.
