CLOGSAG declares nationwide strike, orders members to stay home from Monday march 9th

News
Executive Secretary, CLOGSAG Isaac Bampoe Addo,

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana has announced a nationwide strike action, instructing its members within the Civil Service and Local Government Service to withdraw their services beginning Monday, March 9, 2026, until further notice.

In a directive issued on March 5, 2026, and signed by its Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, the association asked all regional secretaries and members across the country to remain at home as part of the industrial action. The notice was also copied to the Civil Service of Ghana and the Local Government Service.

The strike follows what the association describes as prolonged delays by government in implementing a distinct salary structure and better conditions of service for workers within the two sectors.

Mr Bampoe Addo noted that discussions over the matter began in 2019 and led to the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding between the association and government representatives.

Although government initially pledged to roll out the new salary structure from January 1, 2023, the timeline was later pushed to January 1, 2025 after authorities requested additional time. However, the revised deadline has also passed without the agreed changes being effected, prompting the union to embark on the strike.
