COPEC urges government to expedite Atuabo Gas Plant phase two project
His appeal follows an earlier announcement by the John Mahama-led administration that construction of phase two of the Atuabo facility would soon commence to harness gas currently being flared, a situation widely criticised for its environmental impact.
Mr. Amoah made the call during a two-day familiarisation tour of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant in the Western Region by selected Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) operating within the oil and gas sector.
He described the facility as a “game-changer” in addressing Ghana’s past electricity challenges and stressed the urgent need to expand its capacity.
According to him, accelerating the phase two project would not only curb gas flaring and reduce environmental pollution but also strengthen energy security and improve efficiency within the power sector.
Also speaking during the tour, the Head of Corporate Communications at the Ghana National Gas Company, Kirk Richard Mensah, underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement.
In an interview with Accra 100.5 FM's news, he noted that a broad-based understanding of the company’s operations and impact is essential to sustaining progress in the energy sector.
He emphasised that Ghana Gas remains committed to supporting national development through reliable gas supply and strategic investments in infrastructure.
