Cape Coast Queen Mother calls for thorough investigation into murder of UCC student
The Paramount Queen Mother of Cape Coast, Nana Ekua Abookye VI, has called for a thorough investigation into the murder of a student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
In a statement issued on June 17, 2026, the Queen Mother expressed shock and concern over the incident and urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
She joined calls from opinion leaders and members of the public for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Nana Ekua Abookye VI also assured the public that Cape Coast remains a peaceful and welcoming city. She urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the security agencies.
According to her, traditional authorities in the area will continue to work with the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen security in Cape Coast and the Central Region.
The Queen Mother noted that Cape Coast remains one of Ghana’s leading tourist destinations and stressed the importance of maintaining peace, safety and security in the city.
She extended her condolences to the bereaved family and appealed to the public to remain calm while security agencies conduct their investigations.
