The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib has appealed to the government and the Ministry of Education to, as a matter of urgency, complete the Weija-Gbawe STEM School initiated under the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to the MP, the completion of the facility has become increasingly important following the difficulties faced by thousands of students seeking placement into Senior High Schools this year.

He said the school was originally constructed to provide additional space for students and ease pressure on existing educational facilities within the constituency.

“The school was built to at least accommodate our school children and to ease the pressure on the existing schools.”

Hon. Ahmed Shaib noted that the situation the project was intended to address has now become a reality with a large number of students struggling to secure placement due to inadequate space.

“This year, we have seen thousands of students stranded because of the pressure on the existing schools. This is exactly why we need to complete this facility.”

He disclosed that the project is approximately 70 percent complete, leaving only about 30 percent of the work to be done.

“The school is about 70 percent completed. We are only talking about the remaining 30 percent, and I believe this can be completed if there is the commitment.”

The MP urged the government and the Ministry of Education to put political differences aside and focus on completing the facility for the benefit of students in the constituency and beyond.

“Let us put the usual politics aside and look at the interest of the children. Education is about the future of our children, so we should all work together to ensure that this school is completed.”

He made the appeal during a ceremony to distribute educational materials to students from the constituency who had gained admission to various Senior High Schools to pursue their second-cycle education.

The initiative, he said, is intended to support the students as they transition from basic education to Senior High School.

The MP stressed that providing educational materials to students is important and completing the educational infrastructure is equally critical to ensuring the students have adequate facilities.

“We can continue to support our children with educational materials but we must also provide the infrastructure they need. Completing this STEM school will go a long way towards addressing the challenges we are facing.”

He called on the relevant authorities to treat the completion of the project as a top priority to prevent more students from being left without adequate school facilities in the future.
