The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has issued a statement clarifying what they call misleading media reports regarding its plans to extend driver licensing services to selected foreign countries.

The DVLA explained that contrary to some headlines, it will not be posting domestic staff to work at Ghanaian embassies abroad.

Instead, authority says they have partnered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to collaborate with Ghana’s Embassies in selected countries.

This initiative aims to provide essential services, including International Driver’s Permits and Driver’s Licence Renewals, to qualified Ghanaian citizens living abroad, DVLA said in a statement.

The pilot phase of the programme will take place in the United States, Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

Embassy staff will receive training from DVLA to verify applicants’ documents, which will then be forwarded to the authority for processing in Ghana.

Once completed, the processed documents will be returned to the embassies for collection by the applicants, DVLA explained.

DVLA stressed that the initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to bring services closer to Ghanaians, reduce defaults, and encourage compliance.

In its statement, the authority urged the media and the public to seek accurate information from the DVLA’s Corporate Affairs Department before publishing reports on its operations, to avoid the spread of misinformation.

The DVLA reaffirmed its dedication to serving the interests of Ghanaians both at home and abroad, emphasising an open-door policy for inquiries related to its services.
