The Fulani Chief of Donkorkrom in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District, Sariki Iddrisu Asambo, has appealed to the government to expedite the rehabilitation of the Ekye Amanfrom–Donkorkrom road to improve transportation and support economic activities in the area.

According to the chief, the poor condition of the road continues to affect the movement of people and goods, particularly livestock, which is a major economic activity in the district.

He made the call during the official commissioning of the Donkorkrom Cattle Market, a newly established facility aimed at providing a central trading point for cattle dealers and livestock farmers in the district.

Sariki Iddrisu Asambo said Fulani herdsmen from neighbouring communities are prepared to bring their cattle to the market every Saturday. However, he cautioned that the deteriorating road network could discourage traders, increase transportation costs, and affect the sustainability of the market.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu Afram Plains North, Kate Mawusi Babanawo, described the establishment of the cattle market as an important step towards strengthening the district’s economic development.

She said the facility would offer cattle dealers a convenient location to trade, reducing the need to transport livestock to distant markets and helping to minimise associated risks and costs.

Ms Babanawo added that the market is expected to create employment opportunities, particularly for women and young people, promote local commerce, and increase the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) of the District Assembly.
