The Ghana First Alliance (GFA) has commended the Government of Ghana for what it described as a firm and principled diplomatic stance regarding the proposed visit of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the group said the government's position demonstrated its commitment to protecting the dignity, security and welfare of Ghanaians while upholding the country's longstanding commitment to justice and human rights.

The Alliance said the continued xenophobic attacks against Ghanaians and other African nationals in South Africa require a firm and proportionate response.

According to the group, the safety, dignity and well-being of Ghanaian citizens, both at home and abroad, should remain the government's highest priority.

The GFA also called for stronger accountability and mutual respect in bilateral relations, arguing that cooperation between countries should be accompanied by concrete measures to prevent xenophobic violence, protect foreign nationals and ensure those responsible for attacks are held accountable under the law.

It further stated that a principled diplomatic response would send a clear message that xenophobia, violence and impunity have no place in Africa while reaffirming Ghana's commitment to justice, human dignity, peaceful coexistence and African solidarity.

The Alliance said recent developments reinforced the concerns that led to its nationwide peaceful demonstration against xenophobia.

It maintained that the protest was not directed at the people of South Africa but was intended to oppose xenophobia, violence and impunity.

The Ghana First Alliance added that lasting African unity could only be achieved when every African, regardless of nationality, is guaranteed equal protection, dignity and respect.

The group also called on African governments, regional institutions and civil society organisations to work together to eliminate xenophobia, protect the rights of all Africans and strengthen unity across the continent.
