The Ghana Education Service (GES) has condemned a violent attack on the Zohe Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Schools in the Yendi Municipality and announced the temporary closure of the affected schools.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 10, 2026, GES said it had received a report that some armed men stormed the premises of the Zohe E.P. Schools on Thursday, July 9.

According to the Service, preliminary investigations indicate that the incident arose from a disagreement between some community members and the school authorities over an attempt to erect a commercial shed on the school premises.

GES said the community members ignored multiple warnings and proceeded onto the school grounds, where the Headmaster of Zohe E.P. Junior High School, Mr Mohammed Shing Gazali, was assaulted.

The headmaster was subsequently taken to hospital, where he received treatment and was discharged.

Although no casualties were recorded, GES said the attack caused panic, disrupted academic activities and resulted in the vandalism of some school property. The matter has since been reported to the Police.

To ensure the safety of learners and staff, GES said the Zohe E.P. Schools have been temporarily closed while engagements continue with relevant stakeholders.

The schools are expected to reopen on Monday, July 13, subject to security clearance.

GES condemned the attack and vandalism, warning that assaults on members of the school community, including staff and students, as well as actions that disrupt teaching and learning, will not be tolerated.

The Service assured parents, guardians, staff and the general public that the safety of students and staff remains its highest priority.
