Fanaka International University College has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ghanaian cybersecurity consulting and training firm Chayil Securex to provide cybersecurity training leading to an internationally recognised certification.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Chayil Securex, Charles Fiifi Hagan, in an exclusive interview with Class News, said the partnership forms part of Fanaka's ambition to establish itself as an information technology-focused institution.

According to him, the collaboration will equip students with cybersecurity skills while preparing them to sit for the internationally recognised CompTIA Security+ certification examination.

"The university wants to be known as an IT institution, as part of their training, and so we have entered into a partnership to train people in cybersecurity," he said.

Mr Hagan explained that the CompTIA Security+ certification is an entry-level cybersecurity qualification recognised globally and can enable successful candidates to qualify for entry-level cybersecurity roles around the world.

He said experienced trainers would be engaged to deliver the programme, which will combine theory with practical training.

The full-time programme, he noted, will run from Monday to Friday for three weeks, while weekend and evening classes will take approximately six weeks to complete before participants sit for the certification examination.

Speaking on why Fanaka was selected as the institution's first university partner, Mr Hagan said the collaboration came after the university initiated discussions.

"Fanaka is the first. We do our training on our own too. We focus a lot more on the governance and compliance aspect of cybersecurity. But to partner with institutions to do this, Fanaka is the first," he expatiated.

He disclosed that discussions leading to the partnership lasted more than eight months before the agreement was signed.

Mr Hagan encouraged prospective participants to enrol, describing cybersecurity as an essential skill beyond career development.

"Cybersecurity is not just a career; it is now something you need for your daily survival," he said, adding that participants would gain both practical knowledge and the opportunity to earn a professional certification.

He urged graduates and job seekers to consider the programme, saying the certification could improve their employment prospects.

Addressing accessibility, Mr Hagan said the training would also be available remotely for participants outside Accra and Ghana.

He noted that Chayil Securex has previously trained participants in neighbouring countries including Liberia and Nigeria through online platforms.

According to him, the remote programme includes practical, hands-on sessions where trainers provide real-time guidance and corrections to help learners build competence in cybersecurity.
