Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, has convened a high-level engagement with key players across Ghana’s petroleum sector to assess the potential impact of the ongoing Middle East crisis on national fuel security.

The meeting brought together representatives from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), BOSTEnergies, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), oil marketing companies (OMCs), and bulk import, distribution, and export companies (BIDECs), among others.

Stakeholders discussed the heightened volatility in global oil markets, potential supply chain disruptions, fluctuations in freight costs, and the likely implications for domestic fuel pricing and consumer welfare.

Dr Jinapor emphasised the importance of proactive measures to safeguard the country’s energy supply.

He noted that contingency plans are being reviewed and strengthened to mitigate any adverse effects from the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The minister directed the NPA, as the downstream regulator, to intensify market surveillance and coordinate closely with industry stakeholders to ensure that any anticipated supply disruptions are managed efficiently.

He also called on all sector agencies to maintain adequate strategic fuel stocks, monitor international developments, and ensure stable nationwide fuel distribution.

The government reassured the public of its commitment to protecting Ghana’s energy security.

“All necessary measures are being explored to ensure sustained fuel availability and to minimize undue hardship on consumers,” the Energy Ministry said, adding that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates.

The statement was signed by Richmond Rockson ESQ, Spokesperson and Head of Communication, at the ministry.
