The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the foiling of a robbery attempt at the residence of a Court of Appeal judge in Kumasi, following the swift intervention of a police bodyguard on duty.

According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred on March 3, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., when two suspects allegedly scaled the fence wall of the judge’s residence armed with cutlasses and a pair of scissors.

The suspects, identified as Patrick Alor, 23, and Akwasi Gyamfi, 21, reportedly attempted to forcibly open the judge’s private vehicle but were spotted by the police bodyguard assigned to the residence.

In the course of attempting to arrest them, the suspects allegedly tried to disarm the officer.

Acting in self-defence and in line with police operational procedures, the officer discharged his firearm, shooting the suspects in the legs.

The injured men were immediately transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where they are currently receiving treatment under police guard.

In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region, the Command commended the vigilance and professionalism of the officer, noting that his prompt action prevented what could have been a serious security breach.

The Police Command assured the public of its continued commitment to protecting members of the judiciary and all citizens, and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
