Finance Minister to present 2026 mid-year budget review to parliament today
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is set to present the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament today, Thursday, July 23, providing an update on Ghana's economic performance during the first six months of the year and outlining the government's fiscal priorities for the remainder of 2026.
The presentation is expected to evaluate the implementation of the 2026 Budget and measure progress against the government's economic targets, with a focus on sustaining growth while safeguarding fiscal stability.
The review comes at a time when several key macroeconomic indicators have recorded stronger-than-anticipated improvements. Inflation has fallen to 5.3 per cent, while government has also reported gains in fiscal consolidation, external sector performance and public debt management.
Dr. Forson is expected to brief lawmakers on revenue generation, public spending, debt management and financing strategies, as well as government's plans for the second half of the year.
The Minister is also anticipated to reassure Parliament that the current tax regime will remain unchanged, with the administration expected to prioritise the effective implementation of existing revenue measures rather than introducing additional taxes.
Another major focus of the presentation will be Ghana's transition from the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme to the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI), which is expected to shape the country's economic reform agenda after the IMF programme concludes.
The Mid-Year Budget Review is one of Parliament's most significant fiscal updates, offering lawmakers and the public an assessment of government finances, expenditure priorities, borrowing plans and the overall outlook for the economy.
The presentation will be closely watched by businesses, investors and development partners for indications on inflation, interest rates, exchange rate stability and any revisions to government spending and financing plans for the rest of the year.
