The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region has reported significant destruction after flooding affected parts of Samreboi and Asankragwa.

According to the Municipal NADMO Director, Elvis Koffie, more than 24 buildings have collapsed as a result of the flooding.

The situation was caused by the overflow of the Samre and Tano rivers following heavy rainfall, which led to widespread inundation across several communities and displaced residents.

Mr Koffie told Citi News that although the flooding has caused damage to homes, property and livelihoods, no deaths have been recorded.

He explained that the heavy rains caused both rivers to rise above their banks, spilling into low-lying areas and worsening the impact of the disaster.

He added that affected residents have been relocated to safer places while ongoing assessments are conducted.

“We have a safe place for them which they are currently living with their families,” he said.

NADMO says it is working with local authorities and other stakeholders to provide assistance and coordinate relief efforts.

Emergency response activities are ongoing, with monitoring intensified as authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage.

Residents in the affected communities have meanwhile called for urgent relief support and long-term measures to address recurring flooding in the area.
