NDC, Rawlings Foundation to mark Rawlings’ 79th birthday with commemorative events

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the J.J. Rawlings Foundation will hold a series of events on Monday, June 22, 2026, to commemorate the 79th birthday of the party’s founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings.

The commemoration will be held under the theme, “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy.”

According to a statement signed by Deputy National Communications Officer Godwin Ako Gunn, the first event of the day will be the naming of the party’s headquarters after Rawlings and the unveiling of his bust at 9 AM.

The ceremony is expected to be addressed by President John Dramani Mahama and other senior members of the party.

Later in the day, a lecture and exhibition will be held at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences near the CSIR in Accra. The programme is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.

The keynote address will be delivered by Ghanaian academic and lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata.

Other speakers include Dr Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and Kofi Totobi Quakyi, a former Minister for Information and National Security.

The organisers have invited members of the public, party members, supporters and cadres to participate in the events in honour of Rawlings’ life and legacy.
