Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel O. Ablakwa has commenced a two-day official visit to Burkina Faso aimed at strengthening security cooperation, advancing political consultations, and formalising new strategic agreements between the two neighbouring countries.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the minister said he and his delegation were warmly received on arrival by Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Kenneth Akibate.

The visit comes against the backdrop of recent security concerns in the sub-region, particularly following the February 14 terrorist attack that resulted in the death of eight Ghanaian nationals, and several others injured.

Before departing Ghana, the minister disclosed that he visited injured compatriots at the 37 Military Hospital, where they are receiving treatment after being airlifted home by the Ghana Air Force (GAF).

According to him, the stopover was to express empathy and solidarity with the victims and their families.

The two-day trip is expected to focus heavily on cross-border security collaboration, enhanced diplomatic engagement, and the signing of agreements designed to bolster cooperation between Accra and Ouagadougou.
