GSFP monitoring team assesses progress at Peduase and Ayi Mensah schools
During the visit, Dr. Agness Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering quality, nutritious meals to schoolchildren while promoting higher enrollment and retention across basic schools.
The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), which provides one hot, nutritious meal a day to public primary school pupils, continues to play a vital role in reducing classroom hunger, boosting enrollment and attendance, improving child nutrition, and supporting local food systems by sourcing from smallholder farmers.
To ensure the programme’s effectiveness, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, together with members of Parliament’s Committee on Gender—including Hajia Fati Forgor, National Coordinator of the GSFP— embarked on a monitoring tour of beneficiary schools.
During the visit, Mr. Dr. Momo Lartey reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering quality, nutritious meals to schoolchildren while promoting higher enrollment and retention across basic schools.
She outlined key objectives of the monitoring exercise, which include:
Ensuring pupils receive hot, nutritious meals daily
Promoting table manners and social interaction among children
Improving enrollment and retention rates
Supporting local farmers and community livelihoods
The monitoring team visited the Peduase Methodist School and Ayi Mensah Basic School to assess the programme’s implementation, observe food preparation processes, and identify areas that require strengthening.
The Minister stressed the importance of stakeholder involvement—especially parents, caterers, teachers, and local farmers—in sustaining the programme’s impact.
She also noted that the committee will maintain regular school visits, hold continuous engagements with stakeholders, and conduct periodic reviews of the programme’s implementation and outcomes.
Dr. Momo Lartey expressed satisfaction with the progress observed so far but emphasised the need for ongoing improvement.
She indicated that the team will compile and submit recommendations aimed at enhancing the programme’s efficiency and long-term sustainability.
