Gov't orders enhanced safety measures at power installations after Akosombo fire
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, disclosed on Thursday, June 11, that he had received the final report from the committee established to investigate the cause of the fire.
According to him, agencies responsible for managing key electricity infrastructure have been instructed to develop and implement a comprehensive action plan to improve safety standards across the sector.
The directive covers enhanced safety protocols, infrastructure upgrades, and the introduction of periodic audits aimed at reducing risks and preventing future incidents.
Dr. Jinapor noted that the measures form part of broader efforts to strengthen oversight within the energy sector and safeguard critical national infrastructure.
The Akosombo Substation fire prompted the establishment of the investigative committee to determine the circumstances leading to the incident and recommend corrective actions.
Government is expected to monitor the implementation of the new safety directives as part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability and resilience of the country’s power system.
