Government maintains cocoa producer price for 2025/26 light crop season despite Global market decline
The Government of Ghana, through the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has announced that the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/26 Light Crop Season will remain unchanged despite a decline in global cocoa prices.
The announcement was made in a press release issued by COCOBOD on June 12, 2026. According to the statement, purchases for the 2026 Light Crop Season will begin on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
A circular signed by the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Agronomy and Quality Control (A&QC), Dr. Francis Baah, confirmed that the existing producer prices will be maintained for the upcoming season.
Under the current pricing structure, cocoa farmers will continue to receive GH¢1,241.76 per load of 30 kilograms for Grade I and II cocoa beans. In addition, the producer price of a 64-kilogram bag gross will remain at GH¢2,587.00.
COCOBOD further indicated that a tonne of cocoa, which is equivalent to 16 bags, will continue to attract GH¢41,392.00.
The government explained that the decision reflects its commitment to safeguarding the incomes and livelihoods of cocoa farmers at a time when international cocoa prices are experiencing a downward trend. Authorities believe maintaining the current producer price will provide stability, confidence, and financial certainty for farmers ahead of the new light crop season.
According to the statement, the decision has already been communicated to key stakeholders across the cocoa industry. These include Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), COCOBOD management, relevant government ministries, and other industry players to ensure a smooth commencement of cocoa purchases nationwide.
The Public Affairs Department of COCOBOD noted that the measure forms part of efforts to support cocoa farmers and sustain confidence within Ghana’s cocoa sector despite prevailing challenges in the global market.
The press release was issued by the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Cocoa Board on June 12, 2026.
