The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, has donated essential logistics to the Ho Municipal Ambulance Service to strengthen its operations and improve emergency response within the municipality.

The items, comprising desktop computer, printer, office chairs and mattresses, are expected to enhance the unit’s data management, documentation, administrative efficiency and the welfare of emergency personnel. 

The computers will also support the recording and scheduling of emergency requests including the use of emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems.

Mr Kpotosu said the donation was aimed at ensuring that the Ambulance Service had the necessary tools to respond effectively to emergencies. 

He stressed that public institutions must first be adequately resourced before being held accountable for their performance.

“The essence of this donation is to help the office to be well equipped so that in case of any emergency, they know how to handle the case,” he said, adding that the intervention would help make the institution’s systems more robust and efficient.

Receiving the items, the Officer in Charge of the Ho Municipal Ambulance Service Principal Advance Emergency Medical Technician (PAEMT), Henry Worlali Mawugbe expressed appreciation to the MP, saying the support would significantly improve the unit’s operations. 

He said the computer and printer would enable personnel to securely collect, manage and analyse emergency data without relying on facilities outside the office.

Mr. Mawugbe stated that the mattresses would also improve the welfare of personnel who often needed to rest at the station after responding to emergencies while the additional office chairs would help address shortages and create a more conducive working environment.

However, he identified the lack of a permanent and befitting office accommodation as the unit’s “biggest challenge”, revealing that the PAEMT had been occupying the premises of the Ghana National Fire Service for the past 21 years since the inception of the service.

Mr. Mawugbe also accentuated that the provision of a permanent office would ultimately strengthen the Ambulance Service’s capacity to deliver quality pre-hospital care to residents, noting that the MP’s donation had addressed some immediate logistical needs but the accommodation remained critical to the unit’s long-term effectiveness.

“We have been occupying the Fire Service premises for the past 21 years since the inception of the service, and it is a very, very big challenge for us. We cannot continue to be patching here. We need to get our own office accommodation, a befitting one,” Mr Mawugbe stressed.

He therefore appealed to the Ho Municipal Chief Executive and other stakeholders to collaborate to secure land and construct a permanent office complex for the unit. 

According to him, a dedicated facility would provide personnel with a conducive environment to recover from the demands of emergency response while also improving operational efficiency.
