The family of the late Apostle Emeritus Prof Ing Kwadwo Safo has issued an official press release signed by Sarah Adwoa Safo ESQ, dated 21 June 2026, confirming that the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya is in a stable condition and responding positively to medical treatment following a shooting incident.

The statement, released on behalf of the family, expresses deep regret over the shooting involving Ms Safo, whom they describe as the duly recognised Head of the Kwadwo Safo Family.

The family assured the general public, relatives, friends, and members of the Kristo Asafo Mission of her stable condition, whilst further stating that all the children of the late founder remain united and committed to ensuring a dignified and befitting burial for their father, with the sole exception of Mr Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, also known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

Seeking to clarify the succession arrangements of the late founder, the press release details that whilst Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo originally designated his son, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, as his successor in 2017, this mandate was later revoked.

The family states that during Israel Safo's tenure, several foundational principles of the church were altered, he exercised authority without due regard for the founder, and multiple businesses within the Kristo Asafo conglomerate experienced a significant decline, leading to the collapse or near collapse of several enterprises.

Consequently, in 2024, the late founder took steps to revoke the mandate previously granted to Israel Safo, removing the relevant provisions from the church's governing framework. Apostle Kwadwo Safo then appointed his daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo, as Head of the Family and established a succession roadmap that explicitly excluded Israel Safo from leadership considerations.

Following the passing of the founder on 11 September 2025, Adwoa Safo has continued to serve as the principal representative of the family with the full support of her siblings.

According to the family's statement, the shooting incident on the morning of June 21, 2026 arose after Israel Kwadwo Safo collaborated with certain elders of the church to organise a private installation ceremony aimed at declaring himself leader, contrary to the founder’s directives.

In response to this planned ceremony, two members of the church had initiated legal proceedings and secured a court application to restrain the installation.

After initial attempts to serve the relevant court processes failed, Ms Adwoa Safo personally undertook efforts to serve the court documents to her younger brother.

The family alleges that during the encounter, Mr Israel Safo discharged a firearm multiple times in her direction and instructed associates at the scene to open fire on her vehicle.

The matter has since been officially reported to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for investigation.

Concluding the statement, the Kwadwo Safo family categorically declared that it does not recognise any purported installation or assumption of leadership by Mr Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, completely dissociating themselves from his claims.

The family has advised the public to exercise caution in any dealings with him that purport to represent the interests, assets, leadership, or affairs of the family and the Kristo Asafo Mission, warning that anyone who chooses to engage in such dealings does so at their own risk.

The family added that they reserve their right to pursue all available legal remedies to protect the legacy of the late founder and urged members, well-wishers, and the general public to remain calm, respect the rule of law, and allow state institutions to address the matter.
