Mahama announces Hajj quota fully subscribed, fare reduced to ₵60k; urges patience and timely payments
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana’s allocation for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage has been fully taken up, with a total quota of 5,960 pilgrims and a reduced fare of GH₵60,000.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Central Mosque at Akweteyman, the president disclosed that all available slots have already been subscribed and appealed to prospective pilgrims to respect the decision of the Hajj Committee.
President Mahama cautioned against the practice of last-minute payments, explaining that such delays often create serious logistical challenges and, in some cases, result in pilgrims being left behind. He urged those who are unable to travel this year to remain patient, stressing that the opportunity to perform Hajj is determined by the will of God and that there will be future chances.
He commended the Hajj Committee for securing quality accommodation close to the Kaaba in Mecca, as well as suitable lodging in Medina, and for making adequate transportation arrangements to ensure a smooth and successful pilgrimage.
The president also spoke about the airport transit terminal currently under construction by the Ghana Airports Company. He noted that although the facility will not be ready for use this year, it is expected to become operational by 2027, significantly improving comfort and efficiency for pilgrims.
As the country prepares for the holy month of Ramadan, President Mahama prayed for God’s blessings upon all citizens and the nation as a whole.
