NCCG offers free transport for students and teachers amid accra gridlock
Accra is currently facing an acute public transportation challenge, as a shortage of commercial vehicles continues to disrupt daily movement across the city, leaving many commuters stuck for long periods.
At several major roads and lorry terminals, passengers are forced to endure extended waiting times, while some drivers exploit the situation by imposing inflated fares not approved by transport authorities.
In response to the growing difficulty, the National Cadet Corps Ghana (NCCG) has introduced a relief measure aimed at assisting its primary beneficiaries, especially students and teachers.
Driven by its commitment to volunteer service, the NCCG has assigned its buses to operate on selected routes at no cost during peak travel periods. These routes include Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Kasoa, Amasaman, Achimota, Nungua, and Madina. The free transport service runs between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., and again from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Eligible commuters can access the buses at designated pick-up points along the listed routes or reserve seats by contacting 0303 2915790 or 0241 820 343.
The initiative is intended to complement government efforts to address the ongoing transport crisis and provide some relief to commuters affected by the persistent challenges.
