The National House of Chiefs has appealed to the government to find a permanent, pragmatic solution to the country’s perennial flooding crises following a devastating 48-hour deluge that claimed at least 12 lives.

​The recent torrential downpour wreaked havoc across Accra, Tema, and several other regions, claiming the lives of victims, including women and children. 

In addition to the casualties, the floods displaced thousands of residents, triggering a massive, coordinated rescue operation by the joint forces of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service.

​Speaking at a meeting of the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi today, the President of the House, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

​Ogyeahoho emphasised that the recurring nature of these disasters demands immediate, proactive government intervention, urging the government to implement robust and preventive measures to avert future catastrophes.
