Nitiwul backs expanded recruitment but says numbers still inadequate

News
Dominic Nitiwul

Former Minister of Defence, Mr Dominic Nitiwul, has expressed support for the president’s decision to expand recruitment into the security services, despite the public debate surrounding the move.

Addressing the media in Parliament, Nitiwul noted that while the initiative is a step in the right direction, it does not go far enough to address the needs of the country.

From the Minority’s perspective, he argued that even with recruitment figures reportedly reaching 10,000, the numbers remain insufficient.

He further suggested that the government’s decision to increase the intake signals there may be broader considerations behind the move.

Nitiwul also raised concerns about the cost of the recruitment process, particularly the medical fees charged to applicants.

He described the current fee of 1,600 cedis as excessive, comparing it to his time in office when medical forms were sold for as low as 500 cedis.

He emphasised the need for authorities to review the cost to make the process more accessible to prospective applicants.
