Authorities in Nkawkaw have stepped up enforcement at the reconstruction site of the Central Market, removing traders operating at unauthorized locations.

The exercise, led by the Nkawkaw Market Taskforce and Nananom is aimed at ensuring the timely completion of the market project, with confiscated goods earmarked for donation to schools and a children's home.

The redevelopment of the Nkawkaw Central Market is progressing steadily, following the temporary relocation of traders to the Adom Market.

However, some traders have defied the relocation directive by returning to the old market site and adjoining unauthorized areas to continue their businesses. According to the taskforce, the practice is disrupting construction activities and slowing the pace of work.

Traders at the Adom Market have also complained of poor patronage, attributing the situation to the continued operation of traders at the old market site.

To address the challenge, the Nkawkaw Market Taskforce carried out an enforcement exercise, removing unauthorized traders and confiscating goods from those who failed to comply with the relocation directive.

Authorities say the operation forms part of efforts to restore order, safeguard the construction site, and ensure the successful and timely completion of the market redevelopment project.

They further announced that all confiscated items will be donated to Nkawkaw Senior High School and the SOS Children's Village at Nkwatia.

Speaking after the exercise, the Sanaahene of Nkawkaw, Nana Kofi Onwena, appealed to traders to support the redevelopment by relocating to the designated temporary market at Adom Market. He emphasized that cooperation from traders is crucial to completing the project on schedule and delivering a modern market that will benefit the entire municipality.
