Police probe alleged assault on Graphic journalist by officers at Teshie
The Nungua District Police Command has commenced investigations into an alleged assault involving suspected police officers after a complaint was lodged by a resident of Teshie in Accra.
The inquiry follows allegations that Graphic Communications Group Ltd. (GCGL) journalist and staff member, Alidu Mahama, was attacked by officers believed to be from the Nungua Police Station after he was allegedly mistaken for an armed robbery suspect at GREDA Estate.
According to the Police, Mr. Mahama officially reported the incident on July 14, 2026, and was observed to have sustained visible injuries at the time of filing the complaint.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 17, the Accra Regional Police Command confirmed that preliminary investigations are underway and that investigators have already taken a statement from the complainant.
The Command also disclosed that a Police medical report form had been issued to enable Mr. Mahama undergo medical examination and receive treatment as part of the investigative process.
Police said efforts are ongoing to identify the officers allegedly involved so they can be questioned and subjected to any necessary disciplinary or legal action.
The Accra Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to a thorough and impartial investigation, stressing that any officer found responsible would be sanctioned in line with the law and the Police Service's disciplinary procedures.
