President Mahama charges ambassadors to reflect Nkrumah and sustain Ghana's democratic, diplomatic legacy
President John Dramani Mahama has charged Ghana’s newly sworn-in ambassadors and high commissioners to uphold and advance the enduring legacy of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, particularly his unwavering commitment to Pan-Africanism.
Speaking at a ceremony at the Presidency on Wednesday, November 19, President Mahama noted that the global diplomatic environment was changing rapidly.
He urged the envoys to demonstrate innovation, strategic insight, and measurable results as they took up their roles abroad.
“Diplomacy today is highly dynamic and demands strategic thinking, strong partnerships and measurable impact. In this evolving world, Ghana must remain visible, influential and respected. Our country has long been known as a beacon of peace, stability and democracy. We must sustain this reputation and build upon it,” he stated.
The president recalled that since the era of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the nation had championed a vision of a strong, united, sovereign, and self-determining Africa. He reminded the diplomats that they were now custodians of that vision.
“Since the era of our first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana has carried an enduring vision of an Africa that is strong, united, sovereign and capable of defining its own destiny. As you take up your positions, you carry forward that legacy,” he said.
He further urged them to ensure that Ghana’s presence abroad continued to reflect leadership, fairness, and unwavering commitment to African unity.
“Wherever you serve, Ghana must be known for leadership, for fairness and unwavering commitment to the Pan-African cause,” he added.
The ceremony saw the swearing-in of 11 ambassadors and high commissioners who will represent Ghana in key countries around the world. They were:
* Mrs Theresa Adjei-Mensah – Ambassador to the Czech Republic
