President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government's commitment to transforming the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) into a leading centre of excellence in health education, research and innovation.

He said this while announcing his plans to address critical infrastructure needs including campus roads, lecture halls, hostels, libraries and an auditorium.

The president gave this assurance during an inspection of the University's multi-purpose laboratory complex in Ho where he expressed his satisfaction with the progress of work on the project.

He also pledged to sustain government’s investment in strengthening the institution.

President Mahama disclosed that the roads within the University campus would be incorporated into an ongoing nearby road contract once the bypass project is completed.

He further described the laboratory complex as one of the most advanced in the sub-region, saying it would significantly enhance research and practical training for students while positioning UHAS as a leader in medical innovation.

The president praised the establishment of an international-standard pathogen research laboratory which is being developed in collaboration with the National Vaccine Institute.

According to him, the facility would strengthen Ghana's capacity in disease surveillance, vaccine development and biomedical research.

His assurance came on the back of an appeal made by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Lydia Aziato.
